In September 2025, we began a full remodel for a family of four in East Falmouth. What had long served as their summer home is now becoming their year round residence after they sold their primary house and made the move to Cape Cod full time—a trend we’re seeing more and more among homeowners on the Cape.

One of the most striking transformations comes from the new windows added to both the front and back of the home, flooding the living room and kitchen with natural light. The primary bedroom has been relocated from the second floor to the first, and now features a new en suite bathroom complete with a pocket door, double sink vanity, tile shower, and a dedicated makeup vanity.

A new back deck has been built, along with a spacious outdoor shower accessible from both the kitchen and the primary bedroom through newly installed sliding glass doors. The kitchen was fully demolished and redesigned with new cabinetry, appliances, and an updated layout.

While the home’s overall footprint has shifted only slightly, the finishes are changing dramatically. The entire first floor is being refloored with 7” European French Oak planks, while the second floor hallway and bedrooms are receiving new carpeting. White oak railings have replaced the former half wall along the second floor hallway, and all interior doors have been upgraded to two panel MDF doors. Many of the new walls now feature 1x8 nickel gap paneling, giving the interior a clean, modern feel.

The second floor bedroom decks have been resurfaced with durable plastic decking, and the former primary bedroom has been refreshed to serve as a comfortable guest room. Outside, all siding has been replaced with new white cedar shingles, the front porch has been updated, and all existing water piping has been brought up to current code.

As with many remodels, the scope has evolved throughout the project. The back porch—originally slated to remain as is—is now being transformed into a fully enclosed space with glass windows and an outdoor TV.

The family is on track to move in prior to Memorial Day weekend, with landscaping continuing into late spring and early summer. Keep an eye out for the final completion photos coming soon!
